Ancoats is an urban area in Manchester, Lancashire. It lies to the north-east of the city centre. From the late 18th century onwards, Ancoats became a thriving industrial district. It has numerous historic buildings including the futuristic Daily Express Building (1939) and the Murrays' Mills complex of former cotton mills, dating from 1797.
