Bedminster, Somerset   (Urban locality)

Bedminster is former town and ancient parish which now forms a large suburb ins south Bristol, Somerset. The town may be Roman in origin, centred on the present East Street and West Street. At Domesday, the Royal Manor of Bedminster comprised all the land south of the Avon, from the Avon Gorge to Brislington. Coal mining and shipbuilding developed in the 18th and 19th centuries. From 1803, northern parts of the ancient parish were added to the municipal area of Bristol, including the town itself in 1836. Bedminster is within the council area of Bristol.
